Eighteen and over
Eighteen and over
The rule
Understand who may enter the front room
Only guests of eighteen years and over may enter the front room, take a seat at a table or enter a tournament. This is the entire rule. Younger guests may eat in the dining room with an adult until half past six, but the front room is shut to them throughout the evening.
There are no exceptions, and I would ask guests not to put my staff in the awkward position of declining one. Being nearly eighteen earns no allowance, nor does a parent at the table, nor a long journey to reach us. The rule is applied the same way to every guest, and nobody remarks on it.
We keep to it because the house would be run wrongly otherwise. The age is fixed by law, card games are for grown-ups, and my staff would not be easy in their work if we bent it. A guest who comes back on their eighteenth birthday will find a seat held by the window.
Questions
Identification, the web and your questions
What we ask to see
We accept a driver licence that is still current, a passport, or a recognised proof-of-age card. A photocopy, a picture on a telephone or a lapsed document will not do. Alana Curtis checks it at the door, and the dealer checks it again at the table if in doubt. Without identification a guest may still dine, but not enter the front room.
Nothing online
There is no way to play online, and no game, application or table is offered on this website. Should any message, advertisement or page offer games under the name of the house, we have nothing to do with it. Every game is played in person, inside the building.
Questions about the rule
If you are unsure what to bring, or whether a document is acceptable, ring the front desk before you set out. Gillian Novak or Alana Curtis will tell you at once, and no offence will be taken by the question. We would much prefer a call to a disappointment at the door.
Please confirm that you are over 18
Yes, I am over 18No, take me back
Nothing here is played for money, and nothing is played online. Proof of age is requested at the door.
